Charles F. Basek Jr.

August 16, 1930 - October 25, 2006

Charles F. "Charlie" Basek Jr., 76, a long-time resident of North Riverside, died October 25, 2006 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

A U.S. Army veteran who served from 1951-1953 during the Korean War; Mr. Basek spent 35 years as a machinist for the Commonwealth Edison company.

For 46 years, he lived in North Riverside. For 45 years, he was an active North Riverside firefighter; a 49 year member of American Legion Post #118 and a member of the Mater Christi Church Holy Name Society.

Mr. Basek's two sons, Brian (Patricia) and David, followed in their father's footsteps. Brian servers as a lieutenant on the North Riverside Fire Department, while David is chief of the Tri-State Fire Protection District.

Mr. Basek is also survived by his wife, Geraldine "Jeri" (nee Hromec) Basek; his daughter Karen (Ken) Rouleau, and nine grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held October 28 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by entombment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
