Dr. Albert N. Sion

April 11, 1923 - February 11, 2007

Dr. Albert Nessim Sion, a noted hematologist and pathologist, died February 11, 2007 at the age of 83. He was a resident of Riverside for 45 years.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Dr. Sion came to the United States in 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy as a ship's doctor. He later worked at Loretto Hospital and St. Anthony Hospital prior to joining the staff at Jackson Park Hospital, where he was on the board of directors and was named chairman of the laboratory.

A proficient physician and surgeon, Dr. Sion was named Doctor of the Year in 1993. He was a proud member of the American Board of Pathology, American Academy of Family Physicians, the Chicago Medical Society, and the American Medical Associaton. He was  licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, New York, and California.

Dr. Sion retired as a physician in 1998 after 32 years in practice.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola (nee Ellwanger), and by his brothers Mauricio Sion and Salomon Sion. He is survived by his son, Jonathan A. (Elizabeth) Sion; his grandchildren, Samuel Sion and Amanda Sion; and his sisters Fortuna and Alicia.

A memorial service was held February 15 at Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home.
